The Burlington Community Aquatic Center offers swimming lessons

We have morning and evening group sessions, as well as limited private lessons available!

Registration can be done online, over the phone, or in person at our front desk.

Registration for the 2026 season will open February 1st, 2026.
Look out for the official registration opening, which will be announced on our Facebook!

Sessions

Group lessons are offered in morning and evening sessions!

The morning sessions run Monday through Thursday for two weeks. 

The evening sessions run Monday and Wednesday nights for four weeks.

Classes for levels 1-6 are 40 minutes long, while Parent & Child and Preschool levels 1-3 are 30 minutes long. 

Inclement Weather

Always expect to show up for class, regardless of weather. Lessons will not be cancelled.

In case of unsafe swimming conditions due to weather, we will hold Safety Days in our party room. If the weather improves during the lesson time, the class will be taken into the water. 

Safety Days cover essential safety topics typically addressed during lessons, with additional sessions schedules if severe weather persists throughout the session. 

Fees

First two children/class: $80 each for pool members & $95 each for non-members. 

Third child (or more)/class: $70 each for pool members & $85 each for non-members. 

The discount is cumulative for each FAMILY during the summer. 

Skills

During your swimmer's class, you can expect that our swim lesson program covers basic fundamental skills like bobbing underwater, various strokes, jumps, kicks, floats, engaging games, and activities. Participants also utilize other pool features for a comprehensive aquatic experience and advance participants learn diving board techniques.

Swimming during/after lessons

Starting at 10am, families waiting for a swimmer to finish lessons can swim. However, after the lesson concludes, please scan your membership card or purchase a daily admission pass to continue using the facility. 

Swimming Lesson Levels

Please use the descriptions below as a reference for registering your child for swim lessons! If you are unsure between a few levels, we suggest registering your child in the lower of the two levels; It is always easier to move them ahead than it is to move them back!

Parent & Child – Children ages 6 months to 3 years old

Children ages 6 months to 3 years old! A caregiver or babysitter is required to accompany the child in the water. 30 minutes.

Preschool I : Water Adjustment – 3 and 4 years old

Swim instruction without parent for those who are experiencing fear or no previous lessons. 30 minutes.

Preschool II : Basic Water Skills – 3 and 4 years old

Beginner strokes, skills, exploration and safety taught. No previous lessons required providing child has no fear in water or away from parent. 30 minutes. 

Preschool III : Independent Swimming – 3 and 4 years old

Independent swimming and beginner stroke techniques emphasized. 30 minutes. 

Level I : Intro to Water Skills - 5 years and older

This class is the beginning class for your child to be introduced to the water without the presence of a parent. Non-swimmer, entry level, may have fear of water, learn to feel comfortable in the water-submerge eyes and nose, rolling from front to back. This is all done with the emphasis on fun. 40 minutes. 

Level II : Fundamental Water Skills – 5 years and older

The fun continues in this next level building on the skills from level one. Enter/exist water without assistance head, floating; submerge entire head, floating without support. 40 minutes. Prerequisite: Level 1

Level III : Stroke Development – 5 years and older

Building on the basis skill learned in level 1 and 2 the front and back crawl are emphasized, swim short distance in deep water, retrieve objects in deep water, and tread water. The introduction of skills for breaststroke and butterfly are done in this level. 40 minutes. Prerequisite: Level 2

Level IV : Stroke Improvement - Children of various ages

Swimmers build self-confidence in this next level by mastering front crawl with rotary breathing, back crawl. Swimmers build on their skills for breaststroke, butterfly, sidestroke and elementary backstroke. 40 minutes. Prerequisite: Level 3

Level V : Stroke Refinement - Children of various ages

Refinement of all strokes learned in past levels while building endurance and proficiency. The introduction of standing dives, flip turns, and survival swim are provided in this level. 40 minutes. Prerequisite: Level 4

Level VI : Swimming & Skill Proficiency - Children of various ages

Refine stroke for efficiency, ease, power, and endurance. Focus on personal water safety and fitness swimming. This level provides skills for fitness that will last a life time. 40 minutes. Prerequisite: Level 5. 

Private Swim Lessons

Private lessons are available for any age and ability.

Five lessons $115/Member or $140/Non-Member

All lessons are 30 minutes long and can be scheduled with the instructor at your convenience.

Once registration is complete, an instructor will contact you after June 15th, 2026, to set up your lessons.

Scheduling Private Lessons

Private swim lessons are scheduled based on instructor availability. Your lesson will be arranged before the end of the season, but please be patient as coordinating the high volume of lessons takes time. While many pools have a waiting period of over six months, we complete our lessons within the three short months we are open.

Once registration is complete, an instructor will contact you after June 15th, 2026, to set up your lessons.

Additional Lessons or Refunds

Before registering for additional private lessons, please confirm with your instructor that they have the availability to accommodate you. If our instructors are unable to coordinate a suitable time, you will receive a full refund.
